Our address is: Base-dance, Unit GH-3 Platts lane Industrial estate, Burscough, L40 7TP.

  • What happens in your first class?

Your first class is a brand new experience for you and your child or young person, and can come with a few nerves, and that is ok.

Before you attend, please make sure you leave home with plenty of time and are familiar with knowing where to go, what to wear and what to expect when you arrive.

There will be a member of staff at the front desk to greet you, they will sign you in and take your child to the classroom door, and your teacher will welcome your child into class once it is time to begin.

They will make sure they know you and your child's name and explain what is normal for a first class.

  • What do I wear for my trial class?

Please arrive to class in comfortable sportswear, but not loose fitting clothing, t-shirts should be tucked in so that they do not ride up during class. If you do have dancewear already, you are very welcome to wear this.

For Breaking, Street, and Cheer Dance please have your hair tied back in a ponytail. Specifically for all other classes, hair is to be put in a low bun.

At the moment dance shoes are to be worn in all classes and students can only be barefoot for Acrobatics, if you have dance shoes already please bring them with you, otherwise, please bring clean indoor trainers and wear socks, as everyday outdoor footwear is not permitted in our studios for hygiene reasons.

  • Do I need to stay on the premises for the first trial class?

Parents and carers are able to stay in the building within our cafe whilst their child is attending class.

We are asking that parents of children in Highschool allow them to enter and leave on their own, Primary school and under, unless you have completed a WALKER form, please bring them into the studio 5 mins before class and queue on the left, Once they are handed over to the teacher, leave on the right.

Providing there is space we have a cafe which you can wait in (Max 8 Tables)

Parents are asked not to wait in the corridor unless collecting a child, And when collecting a child please do not bunch up outside of the door, please wait on the left.

  • Can I watch my child’s class?

We do not allow spectators in our classes, this is to comply with child safeguarding and ensure all participants feel comfortable and safe in the class environment.

Note: Preschool classes - Our 18month+ sessions are parent assisted.

  • I want to join Base Dance but I want to stay at my other dance school too, can I do that?

We strongly advise not to overcommit children to more than one dance school, unless attending classes in subjects we do not offer.

This is to avoid any conflicts of interest, for example; due to child performance licensing, children are very limited in how many times they can perform legally. Also, children miss out on studio events, due to schedule conflicts.

We expect all our members to commit to our studio and fully participate in our programs. We welcome external students to attend camps, workshops and open classes at our studio.

  • What to expect from class

There can be a lot of new faces and information to take in at this time, it can still be a little daunting. We start each class with a register and then an opportunity for each child to share a piece of news with the class, this helps us all to get to know each other a bit better and starts the process of making great friends.

If they have not danced before then please inform your teacher, this is great to know, so they can make your child feel supported in class.

In summary, classes follow the structure outlined below:

    • Welcome students into class
    • Class attendance taking (introduction of trial students, icebreaker activity and class buddy assigned)
    • Aims and objectives of today’s lesson and a recap of last lesson
    • Warm up
    • Main class content
    • Cool Down
    • End of Lesson

  • At the end of your first class

Your teacher will provide you with feedback and answer any questions you may have.

Please be aware they may have another class starting in 5 minutes and if you have many questions, then we are always available on the phone or email.

We will send you an email to catch up with you after you have attended your trial class and are happy to chat with you at length!

  • What are my commitments when I join?

  • If I want to speak to a teacher should I catch them after their class?
